Updates & Developments in 2000Great

There is a peculiar magic that happens in the city of Milwaukee that I first discovered at the young age of 18, and every time I experience this harmony, I return back to my home base feeling quite content, usually in a deep haze, not fully understanding how such a quaint city can make such a loud noise. It has to be a combination of the very talented and upstanding folks who live and/or come from there, Midwestern charm/personality, and major beer pride. It's one of the most difficult places for me to try and explain properly, because you'll never really know unless you know.

Hallmark card-ish, I know.

This last weekend was no exception. We got branded together, experienced a heavy closing out of a very significant time in many of our lives, saw some baseball, mastered brunching, and dabbled in our fair share of unruly behavior. Needless to say, we are all heavily bruised this week.

tourist business

I thought I had done it all in this city until I realized I was moving and I hadn't even gotten started. As one of the many things I've listed to do before leaving my beloved city of Los Angeles, I decided to ride our good old underground metro the other week. I really wish I would have tapped into this surprisingly simple form of public transportation sooner. Parking blows downtown, think of all the quarters and parking tickets I could have saved myself.

Apparently, you can go all the way to Long Beach on one of these things, but our friend Jason Stewart has some pretty fun stories to scare you out of it.

things to do before leaving Los Angeles
korean spa
shoot guns downtown
hiking at angeles national forest
mexican wrestling at the mayan downtown
olvera st
catalina (again)
ojai hot springs (again)
food not yet eaten [manoush, cliffs edge, cafe stella, auntie em's, langers deli, gospel brunch, roscoe's, ethopian food, cliftons, village pizza, philippes french dipped]
ride the subway
ventura thrifting
footsies
bob baker marionette theater (213.250.9995)
long beach aquarium
ride horses under hollywood sign
salton sea
silent movie theater
natural history museum
hot air balloon ride
huntington tea gardens
santa anita horse tracks
big bear
tar pits
haunted forest in pasadena
tonight show guest
mexico - puerto nuevo (again)
watts towers
bounty
san antonio winery

The first half of the list has been accomplished, I have the bob baker marionette theater and everything below it to handle now. It's been a pretty sweet exploration so far, and I'm pretty sure once I hit Watts, it's only going to get better.

Found Part X

I usually don't put a grip of these up all at once, but this batch was so solid, I couldn't help it.

Time is Creepin' Up on Me

Looking forward to a New York summer, I don't mind a little heat. In fact, I think it's good for the soul.

this is not a joke

The young adults in this city don't fuck around. When they talk about starting a dodgeball league, they goddamn mean it, and they do it in the most radical way.

Big ups to people who organize things. It's a great way to live life. Full story in issue #2 of Golden Guns, due out in May.

Old Habits Die Hard

My beverage habit has been taking a toll on my finances. The daily kombucha, along with the occasional soy double-shot latte are adding up to something likeeee... 30-40 bucks a week! So I am making a promise to myself to purchase one or the other, 2-3 times a week coming in at 10-15 bucks more or less. That should come out to a saving of....like a zillion dollars a year. So let's see how this works out. Discipline is not the problem; its consistency and commitment I have issues with.
